about Lac des Mille lacs First Nation

The Ojibwe name for Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation (LDMLFN) is Nezaadiikaang, which means “place of the poplars”.

We are a proud Ojibwe First Nation, signatory to Treaty #3 under the Shebandowan-Adhesion of 1873. Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation is comprised of two parcels of land – LDMLFN Reserve 22A1, located on Lac des Mille Lacs, and LDMLFN Reserve 22A2, located approximately 20km west of the township of Upsala, Ontario. Our First Nation is governed by a duly elected Chief and Council, and has a current off-reserve population of over 600 registered Band Members.

We are proud to partner with Hydro One Networks for the development of the Waasigan Transmission Line, which traverses our traditional territories in Treaty #3.

LDMLFN cultural training program

This Cultural Training Program has been designed by Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation and is being delivered in collaboration with Valard and Hydro One Networks Inc. for the Waasigan Transmission Line Project. It is a tool for employees and contractors who are working on the project to gain awareness and understanding of the history, people, ways of life, and future vision of our Nation.

Through this training, participants will learn about our cultural values, as well as important information about how to respectfully work in areas of cultural significance and how to interact with heritage sites, waterways and wildlife, among others. We look forward to welcoming you to work and do business in our traditional territories.
